Bike Lanes and Sidewalk; Roundabout at Pope Road

Old Durham/Old Chapel Hill Rd: Garrett Road to Pope Road
$7,499,897.00
May 5, 2019 Update:  The final layer of asphalt has been put down. NCDOT is currently installing thermoplastic pavement markings and expects that the project will be substanitally complete by the end of May.

City and DCHC MPO staff have received requests for lighting at the Pope Road roundabout; but that location is outside of the City of Durham limits and is also not in Chapel Hill's limits (NCDOT and the County typically do not provide streetlights on secondary roads, but NCDOT is reportedly reconsidering this policy).  Lighting of the Mt. Moriah Road roundabout, as well as lighting along the corridor up to Garrett Road, is being addressed by a lighting project ordered from Duke Energy by the Transportation Department.  City and NCDOT staff have also received requests that the roundabouts be landscaped, and it is our understanding that Council Member Reece is discussing this with appropriate staff in the General Services Department.
